In what can only be described as an abosolute shock, WGN-AM morning man John Williams, who assumed that role just six months ago, will be demoted to mid-days and former KGO-AM host Greg Jarrett will be taking over the morning drive slot. In what was clearly a radio stunt, Erich “Mancow” Muller allowed himself to be waterboarded last Friday morning during his show on WLS-AM. With his partner Pat Cassidy providing play-by-play commentary, Mancow appeared to undergo the same procedure that CIA interrogators used against a handful of detainees, a technique recently banned by the Obama administration and critiszied by Democrats in Congress.
Aside from getting attention, Mancow intended on making a point about the seriousness of the technique. After lasting less than…
The Garry Meier of 1979 would probably find it amusing that the Garry Meier of 2009 has just been named the afternoon host on WGN-AM. For so many years, Meier and partner Steve Dahl mocked WGN, its personalities, and all that it represented in Chicago broadcasting. Now, after so many years, Meier will be holding court each afternoon from 1-4pm when the Cubs aren’t playing.
We’ve received multiple reports in the last few days that WGN-AM has offered Garry Meier a contract to fill the 1-4pm vacancy that has been open since John Williams moved to mornings in December. We’re also hearing that Meier has not yet signed that contract because his agent — and his wife — Cindy Meier (nee Fircak) is not happy with the terms of the deal. It’s not clear what specific points of negotiation are being raised, but multiple sources…
Late last week, the Sun-Times’ Lewis Lazare confirmed what had been rumored for weeks, that former WMAQ-TV Ch. 5 reporter Amy Jacobson would been joining WLS-AM’s The Roe Conn Show. Citing unnamed sources, Lazare claimed that Jacobson would be joining Conn’s show in early May.
Then, on Saturday, the Sun-Times ran an interivew with Jacobson, who all but confirms that she’ll be joining WLS-AM. She praised Roe Conn as, “incredibly witty and smart.” She also talked about how relieved she is to be…
It didn’t take long for WGCI to shore up its morning drive, with the departure of Steve Harvey to WVAZ. The Clear Channel station announced today that Tony Sculfield, Nina Chantele, and Leon Rogers — now known collectively as “The Morning Riot” — will be taking over in mornings, starting on Wednesday, April 1.
Chantele will continue to host the 10 a.m.-to-1 p.m. shift on Clear Channel’s WKSC-FM 103.5 and Rogers will remain teamed with Frankie Robinson from…
