Roe and Garry … Back Together Again

It wasn’t the long-awaited reunion on the air that many fans had been hoping for, but Roe Conn and Garry Meier were together again on Monday in a Chicago courtroom. Conn testified in the proceedings between Meier and his former agent Todd Musberger. The case dates back to 2004 when Meier and Conn found themselves in contract negotiations with WLS. Meier had retained Musberger as his agent, but later fired him, presumably at the behest of his wife who took over as Meier’s agent. Musberger sued Meier for $92,000 in fees that he claims Meier owed him.

Meier was taken off the air by WLS in January of 2004 as negotiations continued. Conn stayed on the air. Both Conn and Meier were offered identical deals in June of 2004. Conn accepted the deal, while Meier refused, breaking up one of Chicago’s most successful afternoon drive teams.

The case came to trial last week and Conn took the stand on Monday. Conn testified that he and Meier did not have a signed agreement linking their negotiations, which Meier had previously asserted in his testimony.

The jury came back and awarded Musberger $68,750.

So by firing his agent, Meier has cost himself almost $70,000. By not signing a very nice deal in 2004, Meier cost himself $1.7 million over the last 3 years.
