FOX Adds Radar, La Tremenda Boosts Signal
From today’s Feder column in the Sun-Times:
The latest weapon in Chicago television’s weather wars was unveiled Wednesday at Fox-owned WFLD-Channel 32.
“Fox WeatherWatch” will track fast-moving storms with live radar that’s designed to provide more accurate and descriptive images than available before.
“No other station will be able to offer viewers the same state-of-the-art live radar and critical storm alert technology as Fox Chicago,” said Pat Mullen, vice president and general manager of Channel 32.
I just love the ongoing weather wars in Chicago. It seems like every time one station adds a super Doppler high-def storm tracker gizmo to their repertoire of weather tools, the competing stations have to add something just a little bit better. I’m just waiting for the first station to claim that they can, in fact, control the weather. “Vote online for the weather you want!”

Univision Radio has filed a zoning request with the city of Chicago for construction of six new radio towers on the South Side to improve the transmission of WRTO-AM (1200), the Spanish-language news/talk station known as “La Tremenda.”
According to the proposal, the 20-acre site at 127th and Yale would replace a nine-tower transmitter at 105th and Woodlawn.
