US99 Automates Overnights
In another sign of the times, CBS country outlet WUSN-FM (99.5) has decided to automate the 12am to 5am shift, leaving longtime jock Mike Myers out of a gig. US99 was one of a shrinking number of stations in town staffed with a live jock during the overnight shift. Increasingly, stations are automating this shift to cut costs. US99 plans on simulcasting it’s HD2 channel feed of “Chicago’s Future Country” during the overnights. Last year, WUSN billed slightly over $28 million dollars, landing it in the top tier of Chicago stations.
On his MySpace page, Myers posted this letter to his fans:
Time for a change
Wow…I can’t believe that 17 years have passed since I first walked through the US99 doors.
Now, as I end that journey and walk out the doors for the last time, I reflect on all the good times we had together. We stayed up all night playing music and talking on the phone. We got to know each other and became friends. We met at parties and had a drink together. We enjoyed concerts and met our favorite singers. Let’s never forget those great times we shared. In the future, You may find me on pre-set #2 on your car radio but let’s have the same fun we had when I was on pre-set #1. I had the opportunity to work with some of the most talented Chicago radio personalities and I had the chance to meet some of the biggest stars and singers. This has been an experience that I wouldn’t have changed for anything.I promise to keep you up-dated on what’s going on in my life as I hope you will do the same. Let’s keep our friendship strong!!
Time to turn the microphone off and let the music fade away but keep your radio crankin’ loud because soon my voice will be coming through your speakers once again. The fun times will return. That I can assure you of!!
Much Love,
-Mike Myers
