Steve and Jack
As the speculation continues to swirl around the FM talker WCKG, Rob Feder is reporting that the stations afternoon drive host and Chicago radio legend Steve Dahl will be taking his act to WJMK, CBS Radio’s JACK-FM station:
No one is supposed to know it yet, but sources say Dahl is poised to join WJMK-FM (104.3), the adult hits station called “Jack FM,” as morning personality. Since the format has been airing with no disc jockeys, he would be the station’s only on-air host.
While the fact that Dahl would be moving is no surprise, given the remaining years on his contract which gives him the right to approve any such move, it is a bit surprising that CBS would put Dahl on their JACK-FM station. WJMK has gone jockless since it flipped from an oldies format several years ago. There has been some speculation that Dahl would get moved over to the Score and host afternoons on the sports talker.
It’s also surprising that Dahl would agree to move to morning drive, as his show has been quite successful in a relatively uncrowded field in the afternoon. After such a long tenure in the market, it’s somewhat strange that Dahl would make the sacrifices that go along with morning radio.
