To almost no one’s surprise, the Radio Christmas War of 2007 is about to begin.

Both Feder and Rosenthal are reporting that WCKG will flip to Christmas music, starting at 7pm today, following Steve Dahl’s final broadcast on the FM talk station. The move comes about a week before WLIT is scheduled to make their annual flip to Christmas music.

However, we have reports that WLIT is going to flip its website to a Christmas-themed site later today, so it’s very possible that the on-air sound will flip in advance of WCKG’s move.

All of this is happening in anticipation of WCKG permanently flipping to a female-leaning AC format dubbed “Fresh FM” after the first of the year. Not surprisingly, that format would compete directly with WLIT.

UPDATE: As of 8:30 this morning, WLIT has flipped to Christmas music.
