WCPT on the move

Rob Feder speculates in his column today that progressive talker WCPT-AM, which is currently heard on 850kHz on the AM dial, might be on the move to a different frequency.

wcpt-logo.gifRecently, Sovereign City Radio acquired WNTD-AM and has begun carrying Relevant Radio, a Catholic talk format. Previously, Relevant Radio has been carried on WAIT-AM, which is at 820kHz. However, its likely that the time brokering agreement on WAIT will be discontinued.

This will allow Newsweb — corporate parent of both WCPT and WAIT — to shuffle the progressive talk format from 850kHz to 820kHz. Currently, WCPT on 850 is broadcasting at 2500 watts, daytime only, directional out of Crystal Lake. With a move to 820kHz, the format would enjoy a boost to 5000 watts, daytime only, non-directional out of Willow Springs.

Longtime Chicago radio observers will remember that the 820kHz dial position was once the home to the Score, after many years as a beautiful music station in the 1960s. In recent years, its hosted a variety of brokered formats, with Relevant Radio the most recent.
