Mike North Done at the Score

In a message posted to his website today, WSCR-AM 670 The Score morning man Mike North announced that he and the station have not been able to come to an agreement and, for the time being, he is no longer an employee.

From his website:

I am now done at the Score. I met with management this past Friday
and since I wouldn’t accept the deal they offered; they told me I
wasn’t allowed to be on the air anymore. I didn’t get a chance to say
goodbye so here goes…

I wanted to say my 16 1/2 years with the Score were awesome. When I
was on the air, it was unreal. To be able to entertain, have fun, and
sometimes get serious… well you never knew what would happen on a
daily basis. I want to thank all the listeners and callers who not only
laughed at me but with me. I heard from a lot of you over the years,
and good or bad, I always welcomed your comments. To do radio in my
hometown at such a great station was an honor. To all the people I used
to work with and I work with now, I say thank you. To the advertisers
on my show and on the station who were always with me thank you for
being there. Without you, there is no station. The sales staff at the
Score was always second to none; we made some bucks together. Thanks to
you guys too.

Whether or not this REALLY means North is done at the Score is to be seen. All the reports seem to indicate that North was made an offer commensurate with what CBS feels his true value is to the station. That number is considerably less than what North thinks his value is and is only about half of what his current deal pays. Additionally, North wants a long-term deal, and the Score is reportedly only offering him a 2-year contract.

Allegedly, this would give the Score the ability to dump North in 2010 and go after Dan McNeil, formerly of the Score, currently at ESPN 1000 WMVP-AM.

In the meantime, the Score will likely promote Mike Mulligan and Brian Hanley from mid-days and fill their timeslot with one of the evening or weekend bench players.

North has reportedly been talking with WLS-AM, who will be dealing with their own contract situation this fall when Don Wade & Roma come up for renewal in November.

This all may change if North or CBS Radio can each compromsie and come to an agreement soon.
