Canellis Returns to Cover Bears

Pre-season NFL football is a lot like summer camp. It’s a complete departure from real life. Nothing can go wrong. Everything looks wonderful. Even the third-string quarterback looks like a superstar.

It was great to see and hear Bears football again last night, on both FOX’s WFLD-TV and on CBS Radio’s WBBM-AM.

It was also great to have Lou Canellis back on a big stage covering the Bears. Like so many Chicago sports fans, I’ve been a fan of Sweet Lou for a long time, dating back to his coverage of the Bulls during the Jordan years. More recently, Lou has been lifestyle coverage for ABC Ch. 7′s 190 N. State program and talking sports on CLTV’s Sports Page.

But with the kick-off of Bears football this season, Lou will be seen and heard on WFLD-TV and Comcast SportsNet’s coverage of the team. Last night, he was roaming the sidelines as the Bears lost to the Chiefs. The Trib’s Teddy Greenstein has more:

“I absolutely feel like I’m back in a big way,” Canellis said. “Now doing five shows a week for the Bears and sidelines for three of four preseason games, that’s a huge, huge deal. I’m lucky.”
