Four More Years: Don & Roma Renew Contract at WLS

After several weeks of speculation, the hudband and wife duo of Don Wade & Roma have come to terms with Citadel’s WLS-AM to extend their time at the news/talk station for four more years.
Rosenthal has the scoop on his blog:

Don and Roma Wade have agreed to continue doing weekday mornings for Citadel Broadcasting’s WLS-AM 890 for the next four years.

Financial terms of the renewal, negotiated by agent-attorney Eliot Ephraim of Ephraim & Associates, were not immediately available. Paperwork was still being finalized late Monday.

Four years ago, the Wades were tied up in a nasty negotiation battle with WLS, then owned by ABC. This time around, while the negotiations dragged on slightly longer than anticipated, the tandem were able to resolve any outstanding issues and sign a contract.

With this deal, the Wades will be on WLS until nearly the end of 2012.  Both Wades will be nearing 70 at that point, having endured the stress of morning radio for nearly a quarter of a century. While Don & Roma have posted higher-than-expected numbers in the recent Aribtron PPM surveys, it has yet to be seen how much staying power the couple has, given their ages and the age of their audience.

With this renewal, speculation has ended as to the possible addition of Don Imus to Chicago airwaves, at least for the time being.

Last month, WLS shook-up it’s mid-day line-up by replacing Jerry Agar with Erich “Mancow” Muller.

I can’t imagine mornings without Don and Roma. Don’s candor and political savvy makes him a delight and Roma is often a surprise, but always a delight. Our country is in big trouble and we need Don and Roma and their guests.
