Is Garry Meier Going to Show Up on WGN?

The rumor of the week has Garry Meier, most recently of the late WCKG-FM, making a return to Chicago airwaves on WGN some time in the near future.

Over at the ChicagolandRadioandMedia.com message board, moderator, Larz posted a message this weekend:

I was hoping to have all of the details by today, but I don’t just yet. All I know so far is 2 things:
1. Elton Jim (Turano) will be with him
2. SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY — no, not at Smokin’ US 30 Dragstrip — at WGN-AM. Now, this means one of 2 things: Garry & Jim will be on the air for an hour Sunday, or an announcement about Garry’s fill-in slot will come on Sunday. I don’t yet know which.

As of this writing, there still had been no developments in this story.

There has been a persistent, but thus far unfounded rumor, that Garry Meier was under consideration for a slot on WGN when the impending shuffling happens after Spike O’Dell’s retirement at the end of the year.

Meier most recently held down a shift at WCKG shortly before CBS pulled the plug on the FM talker last year. Before that, he had been sidelined since 2004, after the now infamous break-up between himself and Roe Conn on WLS-AM. Meier is perhaps most well-known in Chicago for his long-time patnership with Steve Dahl, which had an ugly ending in 1993.

I miss Garry Meier and would give him a listen wherever he shows up. Not sure that he can succeed on a show where he is not the “sidekick.”

Garry Meier is my favorite radio personality of all time (since the 70’s). There’s nobody “on the blower” with a quicker wit! I hope he returns to the airwaves soon and you can bet good money that I’ll be listening to his show no matter what station or what time of day or night he’s on! And he doesn’t need to be anyone’s sidekick!
