Roe and Garry Together Again

We’ve received multiple secondhand report that last night at Roe Conn’s Newsapalooza event at the Vic Theatre, Garry Meier made an appearance. Reportedly, Meier was called by a participant in the event who was unable to attend. That participant called and asked Meier to come in his place, which Meier agreed to do.

We do not have confirmation of this, but if it’s true, then it indicate significant thaw in the otherwise frigid relationahip that Roe and Garry have had since the pair split up in early 2004 when their contract talks with WLS-AM broke down. Conn subsequently took a deal with WLS while Meier refused to do so. Consequently, Garry remained off the air until joining WCKG-FM in 2007, shortly before the station flipped formats.

If Meier did show up at the WLS event, it will also mark the second time that Meier has made such a move in reconciling with a fomer partner. In 2006, Meier showed up at Oak Street Beach during a broadcast of Steve Dahl’s afternoon show on WCKG. The pair spent the better part of the afternoon broadcasting together. Previously, Meier and Dahl had not spoken since they split up in 1993.

More details will be posted as the become available.

UPDATE: Roe spoke on Mancow’s show today about how this story developed on Sunday. Bill Kurtis was scheduled to appear on the Newsapalooza show, but beca

use of a recent surgery, he was unable to attend. Roe then reached out to Garry Meier — for the first time in over four years — at the behest of his producer. The two spoke, and Garry agreed to attend t

he event and perform. After his performance, Garry spent time talking with Roe backstage. More details still to come.

UPDATE 2: Roe called into Mancow’s show on Monday and talked about his reunion with Garry. Here’s the audio of that call:

I would love to hear Roe and Garry again, although I have learned to appreciate Bill Leff. Bring Garry back and move Bill Leff to Mancow’s show! Kidding — in fact, just give Bill Leff Mancow’s show.

To back up Vinron’s saying, why not give the Mancow show to Bill and Wendy Snyder? I disgress…

Anyways, I don’t expect Roe and Garry to work together again, but if Garry uses this as a real opportunity to forgive Roe, and not feel such hostility towards him, that at least opens the chance for at the very least, a one-time reunion show or something in the future. I’m already speculating for ahead of myself.

But no one would had ever thought Dahl and Meier would ever be on the air together at the same time, and it happened. I don’t expect Conn and Meier to ever share a mic again, but I certainly have come to never say never…
