WGCI Names New Morning Show
It didn’t take long for WGCI to shore up its morning drive, with the departure of Steve Harvey to WVAZ. The Clear Channel station announced today that Tony Sculfield, Nina Chantele, and Leon Rogers — now known collectively as “The Morning Riot” — will be taking over in mornings, starting on Wednesday, April 1.
Chantele will continue to host the 10 a.m.-to-1 p.m. shift on Clear Channel’s WKSC-FM 103.5 and Rogers will remain teamed with Frankie Robinson from 6-to-10 p.m. on WGCI. UB Rodriguez will hold down Sculfield’s old 2-6 p.m. post on an interim basis until a permanent host is named in the coming weeks.
While it is a move to a local show from syndicated programming, it’s a marked step down in terms of name equity and sophistication. It’s hard to tell if Clear Channel thinks this is a long-term fix or simply a placeholder until they find a bigger name or flip the station to a different format.
