Wolves Score Broadcast TV Outlet

30 September 2009 438 views No Comment

As the puck drops onĀ  a new hockey season, the Chicago Wolves have reached an agreement with WPWR-TV my50 to broadcast 15 games this season. The deal marks the first time since the Wolves have had a broadcast outlet for their games since 1997. The remainder the AHL team’s schedule will air on Comcast SportsNet or its affiliates.

This move, along with the Blackhawks’ deal with WGN-TV, signals a marked change in direction for hockey broadcasting in Chicago. For decades, the Hawks blacked out all home games, greatly limiting the exposure of its product to an otherwise hockey-friendly town. The Wolves have enjoyed quite a bit of success on and off the ice in the past few seasons, and this deal will undoubtedly bolster the team’s profile.
