Lewis Lazare profiled Felicia Middlebrooks in the Sun-Times today, as she marks 25 years with WBBM-AM 780. The profile is very generous to Middlebrooks and spends very little time highlighting what may be most infamous moment in her career:
Middlebrooks made headlines herself in March 2002 when she and WBBM came to an impasse on her contract negotiation and they announced they were parting company. She was off the air for nearly two weeks, but returned after the Rev.

CBS’ adult contemporary WCFS-FM 105.9′s morning man Mike LeBaron exited the station after two years on the job. The move comes early in the tenure of Bill Gamble, who arrived at the station nearly three months ago as program director.
When it launched with much fanfare almost two years ago, Fresh-FM 105.9 set it sights on WLIT-FM and WTMX-FM, trying to slice a piece of the coveted female 25-44 audience. The station has struggled to establish itself, and LeBaron …

Greg Jarrett Hired from KGO to Take Over Mornings; Williams to Mid-Days
In what can only be described as an abosolute shock, WGN-AM morning man John Williams, who assumed that role just six months ago, will be demoted to mid-days and former KGO-AM host Greg Jarrett will be taking over the morning drive slot. Jarrett was recently laid-off at the Citadel-owned San Francisco talker.…

Just weeks after she wrapped up her most recent run at WLS-AM 890, longtime traffic reporter Christina Filiaggi will be popping up on Geoff Pinkus’ “Living Large” show on WIND-AM 560 starting this Sunday evening starting at 5p.
Filiaggi was booted from WLS to make way for Amy Jacobson, who took over the sidekick duties on the show. For months before joining WLS, Jacobson sat-in with Pinkus. In essence, Pinkus and Conn pulled off a trade of Jacobson for Filiaggi. …

It’s been almost a decade since Dan McNeil called WSCR-AM The Score his home. He’s spent most of the last nine years as part of Mac, Jurko, and Harry’s “Afternoon Saloon” on cross-town rival ESPN’s WMVP-AM 1000, until January of this year when he was yanked off the station. Since then, he’s been sitting out the remainder of his contract. On June 15, Danny Mac will return to his roots at The Score.…

In what was clearly a radio stunt, Erich “Mancow” Muller allowed himself to be waterboarded last Friday morning during his show on WLS-AM. With his partner Pat Cassidy providing play-by-play commentary, Mancow appeared to undergo the same procedure that CIA interrogators used against a handful of detainees, a technique recently banned by the Obama administration and critiszied by Democrats in Congress.
Aside from getting attention, Mancow intended on making a point about the seriousness of the technique. After lasting less …

More than three years after he joined WLS-AM and the Roe Conn Show, veteran comedian and broadcast personality exited the station on Friday. According to reports, his contract was up, and the station decided not to renew his deal.
When he joined WLS in 2005, critics immediately compared Leff to Garry Meier. A year earlier, Meier walked away from a reported seven-figure deal to stay with the station and longtime partner Roe Conn.…

The Garry Meier of 1979 would probably find it amusing that the Garry Meier of 2009 has just been named the afternoon host on WGN-AM. For so many years, Meier and partner Steve Dahl mocked WGN, its personalities, and all that it represented in Chicago broadcasting. Now, after so many years, Meier will be holding court each afternoon from 1-4pm when the Cubs aren’t playing.…
