As the puck drops on a new hockey season, the Chicago Wolves have reached an agreement with WPWR-TV my50 to broadcast 15 games this season. The deal marks the first time since the Wolves have had a broadcast outlet for their games since 1997. The remainder the AHL team’s schedule will air on Comcast SportsNet or its affiliates.

Longtime Chicago sportscaster Chet Coppock recently released a book entitled, Fat Guys Shouldn’t Be Dancin’ at Halftime: An Irreverent Romp Through Chicago Sports (The Good, the, Bad & the Ugly). In the book, Coppock offers up his opinion on some of the best and the worst sports personalities in Chicago. WGN-TV’s Pat Tomasulo made the #2 slot on the worst list.

Longtime Chicago broadcaster Bob Sirott will not be the new 10pm anchor of the WMAQ-TV Ch.5 newscast. The station had been grooming Sirott to replace Warner Saunders for several years, and his ascension to one of the most prominent jobs in Chicago broadcasting was considered by most to be a sure thing.

They’ve only been on the air for a few months, but Mike North and Dan Jiggetts are already getting more exposure for their “Monsters in the Morning” program on Comcast SportsNet. Starting on April 1, the local cable channel will replay a one-hour replay at 11pm of the program from the same morning. Revenue and ratings are both down, and WBBM-TV Ch.2’s general manager Bruno Cohen is being forced to do whatever he can to stop the bleeding, even if that means renting out space in his own building.
