It appears that, after more than three decades, the the franchise that began as At the Movies with Siskel and Ebert and later became Ebert and Roeper is about to go dark. Richard Roeper, longtime Chicago columnist and media critic, joined the movie review program eight seasons ago. Recently, with Roger Ebert sidelined by a variety of health issues in recent years, Roeper anchored the show with a rotating cast of foils. Today, Roeper released a statement that indicates

It appears Phil Rosenthal over at the Trib is as unimpressed with the National Radio Hall of Fame as I am.

He ponders what a Chicago Media Hall of Fame might look like:

Let’s start with TV hosts Dave Garroway, Oprah Winfrey and Phil Donahue; publishers Hugh Hefner and John H. Johnson; newscasters Floyd Kalber, John Drury, Fahey Flynn, Bill Kurtis and Walter Jacobson.

His list is pretty comprehensive. Perhaps Phil should forward his column over to Bruce DuMont to…

Neither Sirius Radio’s Howard Stern nor JACK-FM’s Steve Dahl made the cut in this year’s on-line voting for the Radio Hall of Fame. From Feder:

Dahl remained more passive this time (although he did get public expressions of support from such media luminaries as Richard Roeper and Bob Sirott.) As usual, Stern ignored it all.

The whole Radio Hall of Fame thing has always seemed a little silly. After all, it’s a part of Bruce DuMont’s hypothetical empire, which…

In a sign of the whacky times radio broadcasters live in 2008, Citadel’s two Chicago properties — WLS-AM and WLS-FM — have signed a deal to receive traffic reports from Clear Channel’s “Total Traffic Network,” reports Rob Feder in the Sun-Times today.

Starting Oct. 1, Total Traffic Network will provide traffic to Citadel’s news/talk WLS-AM (890) and oldies WLS-FM (94.7).

The two stations have been clients of Metro Networks/ Shadow Broadcast Services for three decades.

Very few details of…

Teddy Greenstein in the Trib today reports that Mike North may be on the verge of landing a new gig:

WLS-AM 890 is on the verge of tendering an offer to former WSCR-AM 670 morning man Mike North, according to an industry source. But the source said North, with his eyes on another potential deal, might decline it.

The morning slot at WLS has been occupied by “Don Wade & Roma” since 1985. The hosts’ contracts are up in

WSCR-AM The Score’s recently departed morning man Mike North held his inaugural webcast today. It was billed as a chance for North to thank all of his fans from the Score. North left the score several weeks ago after he and the station were unable to come to terms on a new contract.

I haven’t a chance to hear the whole show yet. North’s guests included Jeff Schwartz, Ken “Hawk” Harrelson, Mike Greenberg from ESPN Radio, and North’s old partner…

This morning, CBS Radio brought together a panel of their morning drive personalities for a roundtable discussion about the role of sports in radio. The event was broadcast on WSCR-AM and webcast on 670thescore.com. Panelists included Steve Dahl (JACK-FM), Eddie & Jobo (B96), Lin Brehmer (WXRT), Ramblin’ Ray Stevens (WUSN), and Pat Cassidy(WBBM-AM). The affair was moderated by The Score’s Dan Bernstein.

Overall, the event went well. Bernstein is a consumate professional, whose performance today ought to convince…

I don’t think anyone saw this one coming, but viewers of WGN’s Morning Newscast this morning got quite the jolt just before 8am. From Rosenthal in the Trib:

The free-wheeling “WGN Morning News” today was more free than usual, as guest David Carradine, live on the air, casually dropped one of the words you’re not supposed to say on TV.

Carradine, who had been introduced by co-anchor Robin Baumgarten as “legendary,” repeated the adjective, inserting an F-bomb in between
